Counselor Assistant

Positions: Part-Time Weekends

Schedule: 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am and 12am-8am

Primary Purpose:  Provide substance abuse rehabilitation and counseling services to clients in accordance with OASAS and Agency rules and regulations in an inpatient setting.

Licenses, Certificates, or Registrations: Valid New York State driver license. CPR and First Aid certified preferred

Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Attending or completed 350 hour CASAC course.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of one (1) year of work experience preferably in a chemical dependency program serving intoxicated persons on an emergency basis or detoxification services.

Responsibilities:
1. Monitoring and observing the physical, mental, and emotional status of admitted clients.
2. Daily monitoring and reporting on all client rooms, kitchen, and common areas for program compliance, health, safety, and security.
3. Reports progress on residence at every shift change.
4. Transports clients to treatment program activities, D.S.S., medical and legal appointments, recreational opportunities and in emergencies.
5. Works cooperatively with the Program Manager to meet the rehabilitation treatment needs of each client.
6. Provides assistant to residents, this includes motivation, support and encouragement for client goals.
7. Logs telephone, personal visits and significant event or information during your shift into the Residential log book.
8. Required to work a flexible work schedule to maintain required staffing.
9. May be required to work in other buildings or ACCA locations as needed.
10. May collect urine drugs screens and breathalyzer testing for Residential clients. Prepares all paperwork related to routine and random urine and drug screens.
11. Assumes responsibility for managing and reporting incidents.
12. Attends all ACCA employee and Residence staff meetings as required.
13. Make calls to local ambulance service, fire department, police, or CDPC, as needed.
14. Performs other duties as assigned by Program Manager.

Language Requirements: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.

Skill Requirements: Writing and communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience. Listening actively to what other people are saying and asking
questions as appropriate.

Abilities: Oral Expression – to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
Oral Comprehension – to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Written comprehension – to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
Speech clarity – speak clearly so that it is understandable to the listener.
Wrist-Finger Speed – make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, wrists.
Reasoning – to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Case Manager

Position: Full Time

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm

Primary Purpose:  Provide substance abuse rehabilitation and counseling services to clients in accordance with OASAS and Agency rules and regulations in an inpatient setting.

Responsibilities:
1. Participates in screening of clients, gathering of necessary admission information/data, and observation of physical, mental, and emotional status of admitted clients.
2. Works cooperatively with the Program Manager to meet the rehabilitation treatment needs of each client. Must assume a rotating caseload.
3. Provides individual and group counseling sessions to residents, this includes motivation, support, and encouragement for client goals.
4. Collects urine drugs screens and breathalyzer testing for Residential clients. Prepares all paperwork related to routine and random urine and drug screens.
5. Monitors clients for medical, mental health, safety and security issues. Monitors client medication schedules, following program procedure and protocols.
6. Dispenses medications as needed.
7. Prepares all treatment plans, and discharge plans. Assumes responsibility for managing and reporting incidents.
8. Participates in weekly Case Conferences and resident meetings including team meetings. Attends required staff meetings and trainings.
9. May be required to work in other residential buildings and ACCA locations as needed.
10. Make calls to local ambulance service, fire department, police, or CDPC, as needed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Education Requirements: Candidate must have completed 350 hours for CASAC, and minimum of High School Diploma.

License Requirements: Candidate must be credentialed as a CASAC-T, and have a NYS Driver’s License. CPR and First Aid certified preferred.

Experience Requirements: Two (2) years’ experience preferably in a chemical dependency program serving intoxicated persons on an emergency basis or detoxification services.

Knowledge Required: Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities. A working knowledge of assessment techniques and quality service standards for clients.
