Licensed Veterinary Technician

Requirements:

  • Valid license as a Veterinary Technician in New York.

Kennel Worker

Job Summary: The SPCA of Upstate NY is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Worker to join our team. As a Kennel Worker, you will play a vital role in the care and well-being of animals in our shelter. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the cleanliness, comfort, and safety of the animals under our care, as well as assist with their daily needs. This position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Animal Care and Welfare:
  • Provide daily care and feeding for animals in the shelter, including providing fresh water, food, and medications as instructed.
  • Monitor the overall health and behavior of animals, promptly reporting any concerns to the appropriate staff members.
  • Ensure that animals have clean, comfortable bedding and living areas by performing regular cleaning and sanitation duties.
  • Assist with exercise and enrichment activities to promote the physical and mental well-being of the animals.

Adoption Assistance:

  • Assist potential adopters in viewing and interacting with animals, answering questions, and providing information about their care and needs.
  • Help with the adoption process, including completing necessary paperwork, conducting adoption interviews, and ensuring proper documentation and records are maintained.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to adopters regarding animal behavior, training, and appropriate pet selection.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of kennel areas, including sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces on a regular basis.
  • Keep animal supplies stocked and organized, including food, bedding, cleaning materials, and medications.
  • Assist with laundry duties, such as washing and drying animal bedding and towels.

Animal Handling and Socialization:

  • Safely handle animals during feeding, cleaning, and other necessary procedures, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Provide socialization and companionship to animals through playtime, grooming, and one-on-one interactions.
  • Monitor animal behavior and report any signs of aggression, illness, or distress to the appropriate personnel.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Work collaboratively with other shelter staff and volunteers to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops to stay updated on animal care best practices and shelter policies.
  • Support and assist colleagues in various areas of shelter operations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional animal-related certifications or coursework is a plus.

Adoption Manager

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Adoption Manager to join our team at The SPCA of Upstate New York. As an Adoption Manager, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating the successful placement of animals into loving and permanent homes. Your passion for animal welfare, excellent communication skills, and strong organizational abilities will contribute to the overall success of our adoption program.

Responsibilities:

Adoption Program Management-

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote animal adoptions, increase adoption rates, and reduce the length of stay for animals in our shelter.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the adoption program, including managing staff, volunteers, and adoption counselors.
  • Establish and maintain adoption policies and procedures in accordance with organizational guidelines and best practices in animal welfare.
  • Monitor adoption trends and adjust program strategies as needed to optimize outcomes.

Animal Evaluation and Matching-

  • Assess the health, behavior, and temperament of animals to ensure they are suitable for adoption.
  • Collaborate with animal care staff to gather information and insights about each animal’s individual needs, personality traits, and socialization requirements.
  • Conduct interviews and evaluate prospective adopters to determine their suitability and compatibility with the available animals.
  • Utilize your knowledge and experience to make informed recommendations for appropriate matches between animals and potential adopters.

Adoption Counseling and Support-

  • Provide personalized adoption counseling and guidance to potential adopters, addressing their questions, concerns, and expectations.
  • Educate potential adopters about responsible pet ownership, including training, health care, and the importance of spaying/neutering.
  • Offer ongoing support and resources to adopters, ensuring a smooth transition and successful integration of the adopted animals into their new homes.
  • Handle post-adoption follow-up and resolve any issues or challenges that may arise.

Community Outreach and Collaboration-

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and other animal welfare agencies to promote adoption events and initiatives.
  • Organize and participate in adoption events, off-site adoption drives, and community outreach programs to raise awareness about our organization and increase adoption opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop compelling adoption profiles, promotional materials, and online content to showcase our animals and attract potential adopters.

Data Management and Reporting-

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of adoption activities, including applicant information, adoption outcomes, and follow-up details.
  • Prepare regular reports and analyze adoption data to measure program effectiveness, identify trends, and recommend improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science, animal behavior, veterinary science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in an animal shelter, rescue organization, or similar environment is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of animal behavior, welfare, and responsible pet ownership practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with potential adopters, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
