Now Recruiting Interns for Spring and Summer Semesters

The Sembrich in Bolton Landing has multiple opportunities for unpaid internships for the Spring and Summer 2022 semesters. Internship positions include: Spring Semester Museum Collection Virtual Interns, Production Internship, and Museum Collection Internship. Details for each of these positions can be found below.

Spring Semester Museum Collection Virtual Interns

The Sembrich is looking for two energetic and responsible individuals to be Spring Semester Museum Collection Virtual Interns. This is an unpaid internship.

Each intern will focus on one of the following primary projects:

  • Creating a self-guided museum tour
  • Creating a Children’s Museum Tour (for ages 8-12)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Additional curatorial projects will be structured based on the interests of the intern, such as:
    • Assist in the development of additional content to engage younger visitors
    • Accession digital assets into the collection
    • Assist in the preparation of the 2022 museum exhibit
    • Update and maintain collection catalogue
    • Assist in the development of digital exhibitions and programs
    • Research best practices for collections management draft policies

Requirements:

  • Interest in and general knowledge of history and/or museums; interest in classical music a plus
  • Interest and experience in creating programs for children
  • Desire to familiarize oneself with docent materials
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Additional Information:

  • 8-10 hours each week, virtually and/or in person
  • Approximate dates: 12-15 mutually agreeable weeks in the period of January-May 2022
  • Unpaid internship
  • College credit available pending confirmation from academic institution

Production Internship

The Sembrich is looking for an energetic and responsible individual to be its Production Intern for the 2022 Summer Festival.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and implement production details for the 20+ concerts/events (indoor and outdoor), including seating, staging, lighting, sound, film and slide projection, artist hospitality, patron receptions, and more, with the guidance of the Artistic Director
  • Serve as Stage Manager for all events
  • Provide museum coverage including greeting, being a docent, providing additional information to our patrons, and serving as a cashier at the gift shop
  • Communicate with team members regularly
  • Support marketing of events by distributing posters and other marketing materials and creating social media content
  • Optional, if time, curatorial project to verify location/condition of museum collection objects

Requirements:

  • Interest in and general knowledge of music, film, and/or theater
  • Ability to lift and move production-related items including chairs, tables, lighting, projection equipment, etc.
  • Desire to familiarize oneself with docent materials
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and email
  • Excellent organizational skills

Additional Information:

  • Approximately 40 hours each week, including some evenings and weekends
  • Dates: Late May through September 3, 2022 (accommodations possible if returning to school earlier in August)
  • Unpaid internship
  • Housing allowance: Up to $3000 housing allowance paid to landlord
  • College credit available pending confirmation from academic institution

Museum Collection Internship

The Sembrich is looking for an energetic and responsible individual to be its Summer Museum Collection Intern.

Responsibilities:

  • Accession of objects into the collection
  • Deaccession objects from the collection
  • Provide museum coverage including greeting, being a docent, providing additional information to our patrons, and serving as a cashier at the gift shop
  • Assist in the implementation of self-guided tours and children’s tours
  • Curatorial project based on the specific interests of the intern
  • Update and maintain collection catalogue
  • Communicate with team members regularly
  • Other duties as assigned which may include:
    • assist in the development of digital exhibitions and programs
    • Research best practices for collections management
    • Preserve, catalogue, and store books in the museum collection
    • Assist in the preparation of the 2022 temporary exhibit

Requirements:

  • Interest in and general knowledge of museums; interest in classical music a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs/move collection-related items including books and framed objects
  • Desire to familiarize oneself with docent materials
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills

Additional Information:

  • Approximately 40 hours each week, including some weekends
  • Approximate dates: Late May through September (accommodations possible if returning to school in August)
  • Unpaid internship
