The college currently has openings for the following positions: Programmer/Analyst, Cleaner, College Service Associate (Saratoga), College Service Associate (Financial Aid), and Assistant Lab Coordinator (Aquatic Ecosystems). Details for each position can be found below.

Programmer/Analyst:

Major responsibilities

Work as a member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team in support of enterprise application systems, including Ellucian Banner, and other related software. Responsible for analyzing end-user needs and developing specifications, programming, testing, implementing, documenting and providing ongoing support for application software and data integration between systems. Consults with ITS team members, users and vendors, including Ellucian, SICAS and ITEC, to ensure that comprehensive solutions are implemented. Trains end users and team members as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with end users to design and develop specifications based on needs, goals and objectives;

  • Analyze cost and effectiveness of possible methods to implement design concepts;

  • Check for adaptability and integration with existing software and workflow;

  • Write code, enhance software programs and configurations, test, implement and document applications systems that meet end-user requirements;

  • Create supporting operating system scripts, reports, automated scheduling and connections;

  • Consult with ITS team members, SICAS/ITEC and vendors;

  • Consult with appropriate parties regarding requirements and limitations;

  • Provide ITS support, respond to support tickets; troubleshoot, research and dispatch where appropriate;

  • Support end-user testing through patch management and assist in staging test data/environments;

  • Support proper use and future maintenance of systems by ensuring accurate and robust documentation and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned by the President

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Strong technical sense, investigative mentality and good communication skills. Must have experience with Linux O/S, programming OOP languages, a relational database (Oracle preferred) and SQL.

Low- to mid-$50,000s

Cleaner – 2nd Shift (Saturday-Wednesday)

Major Responsibilities

  • Performs routine building cleaning duties

This is routine work requiring efficient performance of simple cleaning tasks under general supervision. The work of employees in this class involves only the thorough execution of tasks that follow a well-established routine.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in building cleaning, knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; thoroughness; resourcefulness; dependability; good judgment; good physical condition.

College Service Associate – Saratoga

Major responsibilities

This position involves providing support, guidance and appropriate referrals for internal and external members of the campus community and others who interact with an office or department of the SUNY Adirondack Saratoga Center through established protocols. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the departmental supervisor. Supervision of others is not a function of this class. The incumbent performs related work as required.

Typical work activities (illustrative only)

  • Serves as a front-line college representative, addressing questions and concerns from internal and external members of the campus community, including faculty, staff, students, visitors, outside entities and others with attention and exemplary customer service that reflects the values of SUNY Adirondack, including:
    • Refers others to appropriate college services, and advises and directs them accordingly;

    • Advises and guides others on established college and SUNY policies, processes and procedures, as applicable;

    • Maintains and adheres to departmental confidentiality, including FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974) guidelines with regards to all communications;

    • May assist with departmental events including meetings, presentations, orientation, campus tours, student activity and other student recruitment events;

    • May assist college staff with departmental intake, registration, retention and completion efforts

  • Uses applicable College software and systems with proficiency:
    • Enters information into appropriate software systems as directed and performs checks for accuracy and completeness;

    • Communicates and responds to others in person and through phone calls, emails and other established college communication channels

  • Provides clerical support for daily departmental operations:
    • Maintains multiple individual and/or departmental calendars, files and records;

    • Assists departments with the procurement of supplies, textbooks, instructional materials and other items, as needed;

    • Prepares correspondence, minutes and reports, as necessary;

    • Works independently and collaboratively on college and departmental projects;

    • Mentors student employees and coordinates their assignments, as applicable;

    • May assist with orientation and training of new staff

Requirements

  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree; OR

  2. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree AND three (3) years of experience working in a complex business setting, providing face-to-face multi-level customer service, including advising and guiding customers; OR

  3. Graduation from a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience working in a complex business setting, providing face-to-face multi-level customer service, including advising and guiding customers

Working knowledge of office practices and procedures; working knowledge of college’s policies and procedures, academic requirements, campus resources, student life and support services; skill in organizing, coordinating and prioritizing projects; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal/human relations skills; ability to work with a diverse population; ability to identify students’ needs for services to make appropriate referrals; ability to operate a personal computer and to learn and use a variety of software packages; ability to maintain confidentiality

Assistant Lab Coordinator – Aquatic Ecosystems

Major Responsibilities

Maintain the Biology Department 600-gallon saltwater reef aquarium and the other aquatic ecosystems in good and healthy condition. Care and maintain the:

  • saltwater reef aquarium which is education and public display.
  • koi pond for fish and plant relationships.
  • specialty tanks for various purposes.

Train and supervise student workers in the aquatic ecosystem care and maintenance. Maintain all aquatic systems in good, health working order; keep tanks clean and ready for public viewing. Monitor student workers. Keep records of aquarium parameters, inventory and purchases and help develop informational kiosks for ecosystems displays. Other opportunities may arise in the future at the interest of the candidate (Continuing Education courses, conventions, off-site workshops).

Candidate must be able to:

  • Work independently and problem solve.
  • Be able to work in a team environment and enjoy interacting with the public.
  • Be neat and have good record keeping skills.
  • Be able to use computer programs.
  • Be able to train student workers and monitor student activity.
  • Be responsible, dependable and maintain a weekly day time work schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisor.

Requirements

Candidate will have/working towards a degree in an appropriate field of Biology. Need a minimum of 3 years of experience in aquarium care (preferably saltwater) with knowledge of healthy tank dynamics, salt and fresh water species, species compatibility, filtration systems, water quality protocols, chemical testing, operation of skimmers, pumps, monitoring systems and dosing. Occasional lifting of 5lb-10lb.
