Part Time Food Service Helper-Glens Falls Corps Meals On Wheels Team

 

The Salvation Army was founded with the basic social services principles of taking care of the physical and emotional needs of the hungry and homeless and remains an outward visible expression of the Army’s strong religious principles, as described in our International Mission Statement. In addition, new programs that address contemporary needs have been established. Among these are disaster relief services, day care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, AIDS education and residential services, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correctional services, and substance abuse rehabilitation.

 

Hours & Schedule: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM (Mon, Wed, Thurs and Fri)

Compensation:$17.00/HR

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION: Assists in the preparation and service of food and in the cleaning of kitchen equipment; does related work as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

  • Sets tables and clears them after meals.
  • Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers.
  • Polishes silverware, tables and chairs.
  • Prepares trays for and serves recipients.
  • Cleans dining rooms and dish and linen closets.
  • Cleans, washes and otherwise prepares vegetables and fruit for cooking.
  • Assists in the preparation of salads and desserts.
  • Helps cooks in any phase of their duties.
  • Washes dishes, pots and pans by hand or machine.
  • Sweeps, mops and cleans kitchen.
  • May act as cashier.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience is not required but some experience as a helper in a restaurant or hotel dining room or in general domestic work is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food.
  • Working knowledge of the care of tableware, glassware, silver, and kitchen appliances.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Physically able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • If driving is required, must have a valid license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
